TIVADAR BOTE will hang another show at his gallery of record, Herringer Kiss Gallery, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in June, which follows 15 prior new artworks shown there in mid-'06 and a faculty show at Illingworth Kerr Gallery at the Alberta College of Art and Design, where he teaches design and visual communications. During that, he delivered a trade campaign graphic to Cline, Davis & Mann for pharmaceutical client MGI. 2007 projects included 12 sports silhouettes for American Express. In '06 Bote also joined 24 prominent Canadian graphic designers in the “Lest We Forget: Canadian Designers on War” exhibition in capitol city Edmonton, curated by Alison Miyauchi, marking the 60th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He travelled to Sydney, Australia, in summer '07, and to Cuba in July '06 just prior to the hospitalization of Fidel Castro, where his photojournalism talents netted him a series of stunning visuals from that island nation.

GREG EPKES

GREG EPKES was tapped by renown Oregon designer Von Glitschka to create an original piece for a book on textural themes, Crumble. Crackle. Burn. released in May '07 by HOW Magazine. Epkes also joined leading global digital artists in "Pixel: Artists Who Use the Computer", part of the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts mid-'07 curated by Mark Fearing and Jeanette Pelster, Portland digital artists. Web site design and management increasingly occupies Epkes' studio time, which includes client Hedge Graphics and major Portland fundraising events for area public schools including Holiday Home Tour and the Red Ball. He and his surgeon wife acquired a beautiful, pristine cabin furnished in Adirondack pieces and located streamside in Mt. Hood National Forest. His family grew by one more in early '06 with the arrival of a new baby sister for their young son. Unfazed, Epkes delivered a Wall Street Journal rush job, then tackled the corporate brand image for salad-themed restaurant, Crisp, through agency Craig Jackson & Partners, as well as ongoing summer and fall covers for Travelosity's TravelSmith catalog designers.

CHARLIE HILL

CHARLIE HILL joined Hedge Graphics in July 07, coming on board with dual talents in illustration and screenwriting. The Los Angeles-based artist provides motion graphics for the zany "Trailers from Hell" (www.trailersfromhell.com), a changing site that posts the latest movie trailers from famous, or infamous, horror and outer-space type Hollywood films. The site provides Hill with a venue for his more humorous figures in contrast to his otherwise heroic-style images that are fitting for both contemporary and vintage purposes in advertising projects.

BONNIE HOFKIN

BONNIE HOFKIN loves chocolate, and for good reason: the Hershey Foundation invited her, via design firm Gallagher & Associates, to create artwork for nine large panels that explain the steps in chocolate-making modernized in the last century by noted philanthropist Hershey himself, and will grace an educational theater housing equipment and other artifacts within the historic Hershey Museum (PA) in ‘08. On the flip side, Hofkin cultivates her fine art side and recently enjoyed a solo show of her portraits held at a beautiful wine country home. Continuing gallery shows include Evolving Art Gallery (San Francisco's Design District), a recent group event at Timmons Galleries, Rancho Santa Fe (CA) of her signature nod to ancient Mediterranean and Michelangelo influences in portraiture and still-lifes. She was featured in the Las Vegas Arts Council national juried exhibit, "Faces of Woman", and the ‘06 Woman's Music, Art and Dance Festival show at the City Council Art Gallery, Long Beach (CA). Her “Speedbag” illustration entry in the Artrom (Italy) International Juried On-Line Art Competition/Exhibition 2005 netted her a finalist spot. And more fine art was included in American Art Collector/West (Alcove Books) and she authored A Practical Handbook of Color Techniques for Medical Illustrators through the University of Texas. Music also provides respite, whereby she plays blues harp at local venues such as the Larkspur Theater Café (CA).

MARJORIE MUNS is working on a series of paintings in homage to Mark Rothko, as contemplative still-lifes that incorporate books and reproductions of the iconic artist's work with other objets. She continues to enjoy display of her larger framed watercolor still-lifes at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's prestigious Rental Gallery, where she was feted with a kick-off reception in '06, and she had a painting in the Long Beach (CA) Museum of Art '07 auction. Muns also taught, by invitation, at California State University/Long Beach. Her "Golden Stone & Bowls" entry in the Artrom (Italy) International Juried On-Line H20 Color 2006 competition netted her a Finalist spot in May '06. In '05-'06, she wrapped a second Ojai Valley Inn project and another for the Williamsburg (VA) Spa, courtesy of Jim Cox Advertising. No wanderings in Europe this year, but a trip to the Pacific Northwest for midsummer rain/cold/heat/wind was fun. She and web designer husband Paul recently remodeled most of their Long Beach craftsman bungalow, complete with a fresh tri-color paint job and cork flooring. And raccoons who go for the grapevines.
